BOYCOTT ALL GAS STATIONS THIS SATURDAY, FEB. 17
We are now into the second week since I set up a gas lobby here in Barrie. The response from the public has been staggering, both in e-mail form, as well as in signatures in the various locations around town.
I have spent many hours asking the simple question, "Are you happy being gouged at the pumps?" The answer has been a resounding, No! Nobody likes to be gouged, but that is exactly what is happening. No other commodity fluctuates like the price of gas at the consumer end. No other commodity would be allowed to fluctuate like gas does, so why do we allow it? As long as we allow it, the gas companies will take advantage.
Just imagine the reaction if the price of a cup of coffee in Tim Hortons or Starbucks went up and down throughout the day driven by consumer demand. Coffee is the second largest commodity product on earth, but do we see the prices hiked up and down each day? Of course we don't. They would quickly be out of business. The price of coffee remains stable over the counter.
On the 17th February I have called for a total boycott of all gas stations in Ontario. This will be the first of many to come unless I have a firm promise from the gas companies involved that prices will be stabilized. The members of the public can help by boycotting all gas stations on Saturday, February 17th..
The gouging must stop. Here in Barrie the prices have always been higher, yet 60% of the population is made up of pensioners . They have no wish or need to drive to the city to benefit from the cheaper prices there, so why is Barrie being singled out and penalized? Gas Companies have been allowed to get away with it for too long. Nobody will stand up against them.
I hope I don't have to fight this alone, and that I can rely on support from the community. We can and will win this by sheer numbers if we unite on this front and show the power-hungry gas giants we mean business.
I need all the support I can get from the residents of Barrie, and further afield. I ask only for you to stand by me and support this lobby. It is in your interest; it is in the interest of all residents of Ontario.
