GAS WAR, FEB. 27

Imperial Oil's Esso stations claim to have run dry in many parts of Ontario after the Nanticoke refinery fire, yet as we all know production was only slowed, not halted at this plant.

Yet Canada produced over 136.4 million cubic metres of crude petroleum last year, about two-thirds of which came from Alberta. The massive oil sands resource accounted for 42.0% of the province's total production.

Pertro-Canada in the mean time claim business was up 20 to 40 per cent over the same period last year and it, too, was starting to go dry, I put it to you, this is a conspiracy to hike prices yet again and you the customer are paying for it.

If this 20 to 40 per cent is to be believed then the same would be applicable across the board with all other refineries, this would flood the country with so much surplus gas the price would be half what its selling for the moment.

Yet we see prices both touching and tipping over the one dollar mark across the board, if we take the top five oil producers in Canada and assume they are all currently over producing by the same as Petro Canada claims to be doing, then this far out weighs the down fall experienced by Imperial Oils Nanticoke Depot.

So why is gas so expensive? Why are we being held to ransom? Why has the Government not stepped in? The answer is collusion.

Canada is both an exporter and an importer of crude oil. Canadian companies exported about 64% of our domestic production last year, most of which went to the United States.

The outlook for domestic crude production is particularly strong at the moment in Canada, with estimated reserves for Canadian oil at slightly over 28 billion cubic meters, second only to Saudi Arabia.

Over the last few days we've all heard that businesses have been severely affected by the CN Rail strike over the past few weeks, and cold weather is making it hard to replenish the supplies of depleted stations, yet most gas in this region is either pumped by underground pipe or goes by road.

So far only 20 Petro-Canada stations have run dry, but gas prices have skyrocketed to nearly a dollar per litre or in some cases above the dollar since the gas stations began to run out, perhaps what's nearer the truth is they are purposely withholding there supplies to gouge as much as they can whilst they are still able .

This grotesque legalized theft has to stop, these major players must be bought to account and a realistic price agreed upon at the pumps without the wild fluctuations we see at the moment.

Three weeks ago I called for a total boycott of all gas stations in the city of Barrie on Saturday's, I've now stepped this up to include a total boycott all Petro Canada gas stations in the province as well.

With the support of the people of Ontario this boycott will bring to the attention of Petro Canada and all other gas companies we mean business and that we will no longer stand and take the gouging and absurdly high artificial prices they seem keen to dish out to appease the share holders.

The fight is on, with your help we will win this, stand by me, and together we will bring Petro Canada to account, the others will follow their after.

They've been allowed to rob you the Canadian people for far to long, its now in your hands to fight back for what's yours and remember you are now paying on average $15 - $20 more to fill you tank than you were three weeks ago.
